Whether retirement is a not-so-distant dream, your “new normal” or current lifestyle, join us for “Keep Retirement Weird: A Freedom Festival” on Sunday, September 15 and make your next chapter a real adventure!

From 2 to 4 pm you can:
  • Explore our “Hobbies in the Lobby” and find a new passion.
  • Match with nonprofits needing your talents in “Volunteer Speed Dating” sessions.
  • Learn cool exercises to ensure “happy feet”.
  • Work out with Lawrence Parks & Rec to stay healthy in your golden years.
  • Find opportunities for supplemental employment and income.
  • Check your health status with free screenings by LMH Health.
  • Win prizes and coupons by smashing an Alarm Clock Pinata and playing Discount Disco.
Then, polka down with Grammy Award-winning band, Brave Combo, from 4:30 to 7pm...Hokey Pokey in a minor key, optional.

“Keep Retirement Weird” kicks off the Lawrence Public Library’s “Retirement Bootcamp,” a new series of classes and activities designed to help retirees find purpose, friends, financial support, health and happiness. It is presented in partnership with the Douglas County Senior Resource Center, and made possible through generous sponsorships from US Bank, LMH Health, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, Douglas County Community Foundation, and a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation. The event is free and open to the public. All ages welcome.

In case of inclement weather, this event will be held at Abe & Jake's Landing, 8 East Sixth Street.
