Fund Established to Honor Longtime Children’s Librarian Joyce Steiner

The family of Joyce Steiner, the library’s former Youth Services Coordinator, has established the Joyce Steiner Storytelling Workshop Fund with the Lawrence Public Library Foundation.  This special endowment will support an annual training session for librarians designed to help them learn the latest storytelling techniques. Ms. Steiner worked in the Children’s Department of the Lawrence Public Library for 32 years.  She died unexpectedly in September of 2009.

"We wanted to find a way to keep Joyce's storytelling spark alive for many years to come," said Jean Steiner, sister of Joyce Steiner.  "Training librarians in and around Lawrence in the art of storytelling is the perfect way to do this."

The fund is made up of money donated by the Steiner family and the Friends of the Lawrence Public Library as well as contributions from library patrons and other members of the Lawrence community. Donations to the Joyce Steiner Storytelling Workshop Fund may be sent in care of the Lawrence Public Library Foundation, PO Box 973, Lawrence KS  66044.  Donors also may contribute online and designate their gift for the "Joyce Steiner Fund."
